Rick Snow showed me an identical coin he is going to submit to PCGS at Long Beach yesterday. He grades the coin VF35 but explained to me how it will more than likely come back XF45 from PCGS.

Very nice 1877. Old cleaning or not I think it would get a problem free slab. I would give it a VF35 and agree that a TPG would probably bump it up for eye appeal. So many problem 1877's out there it's nice to see this one.

I personally believe it's problem free.

Update - Did an on-site submission to NGC at the FUN show and it got VF35.

I think it was a good call to get it slabbed to prove authenticity and provide long-term protection. You should be pleased with the no-problem result. In hindsight it might have been a stretch to expect an EF grade and a VF-35 1877 is a terrific coin to have. Congratulations!

Absolutely a great piece. My all time favorite coin. No I don't own one (yet). But I'm working on it.
My guess was EF40 but I see I was wrong by a bit.
