1st thing I noticed was the spotty toning- looks like some artificially toned Chinese counterfeit draped bust $'s.

And reverse doesn't appear to match the known VAM reverses:

See nothing out of spec to suspect this is a fake; I also reviewed it with my Friend Ed Fuhrman.

Thanks westcoin; I don't see from those sets of images what this post is about...

I expected a real horror case, but the C2C images show both a larger one with the smaller TPG slab one. I find the on-line NGC cert images to be rather poor but better than none like many of the PCGS ones; at least there is something to compare when I am researching "suspect" coins.

jacrispies nailed it; one of the "family" of counterfeits based on the 1795 OC bust variety. I wrote a Coin Week article on these.

Counterfeiters took the transfer process to a new level after 2008; many of the examples we traced back to a Chinese based group are in TPG holders as genuine. Duplications are so good you see every nick and mark from the genuine source coin. How they may have advanced from there makes me cringe at night...
