If I recall the reverse had strange colors and looked like a problem coin.
Just an FYI--the coin arrived today and is better than expected--it's a solid EF. The color is much better than the pics on the auction; it's the medium-brown one would see in more-or-less problem-free IHCs from this decade. There are a couple tiny verdigris spots that can be minimized by a distilled water soak. The odd spots on the rev I would attribute to a rough LDS and some darker tones--not corrosion per se.

Apologies for the slight delay--hectic holidays and all that.

The Random Number Generator has just selected a winner--quite amazingly 7 is the lucky number!

would it be correct to 'assume' that you will notify the winner as well as all participants once the drawing has been completed?
I trust all participants will find the contest results here and I wish everyone a Happy Holidays and New Years!

When I get home from the holidays, I will study the coin more closely. From what I see now, the position of the "1" in 1890 against the bust/denticles appears to be correct. Secondly, I consider the slab-like serifs diagnostic of this variety--not easily explained otherwise. But after all, I have little invested in this coin and therefore I'm not dependent on a specific outcome.

The position of the "9" in the date to the denticles indicates "far".
I suspect the die crack connecting the ML to the rim gives a "near" impression?

Only, and I stress only, if I knew it was a 1888/7.
NickleGuy, what is the source of the picture you posted...I know it's not that auction.
In other words, the pic you posted appears to be the S-1 1888/7

The language here appears to be Danish.
sølv = silver; polet = token. However, I wouldn't expect a token to be made of silver.

It's pretty common for this date to show rim weakness on the obverse...details look consistent for a G4. I won't figure in the bump since I can't see the whole thing...

A fake 1804 dollar poses less of a threat to the hobby than the knockoffs of common 19th coins...which will eventually overwhelm collections. Someday, all collector coins may be assumed fake until proven otherwise.

Ebay doesn't let us zoom in like that. What do you do? Save a picture file and blow it up yourself? What common program does that?
I should clarify--the detailed photo I put above with the markers pointed out...is my own coin (a higher grade). Once you're familiar with the markers on this MPD, it's easy to spot even in lower grades.

Macro For Nikon D5200 ?

I'll just toss in that I've been very happy with my 60mm Nikon--it's the sharpest of my Nikon macro lenses--and the older AF type. While the D5200 requires lenses with internal motors to autofocus (AF-S type), most of the time I'm manually focusing on coins. I bought mine used--but in excellent shape--from KEH for ~$250. I can't recommend the outfit enough for used gear.

Of course, I can't argue with the spirit of experimentation--using less specialized lenses with bellows and extension tubes produces some great results, as I've seen here!

Sure--there are some variances in toning--particularly on the reverse. The way I interpret the photo, with the clearly stressed details (and maybe color too)--suggest the coin may look better in-hand. These are risks I take when cherrypicking.
But we'll see--I'll post pics when it arrives.

Maybe the seller didn't clean the coin, but it's clearly come in contact with harsh chemicals...it has that telltale iridescence in "OF AMERICA" and the feather tips.
