So after a lot of research and evaluating different options the best silver to buy is modern silver government coins as an investment ...

constitutional silver sells for spot price plus 50 %

a blast white raw government coin sells for spot plus 50%

and unlike a silver generic round or bar; the government coin authenticates itself !!!

so these government coins have some premium as a Semi-Numismatics coin have the best medium term potential as a silver investment vehicle :)

So it seems (and I myself agree) , in an average persons societal breakdown physical metals are not even going to be in your top ten most needed items ...

especially in Australia ...

in the early 1960's the civil defense committee of Tasmania met in Hobart to develop contingency plans for civil defense response to atomic strikes on Tasmania.

after a brief discussion ; someone just said " this is Tasmania, lets be realistic and just all go home ".

which ended all atomic defense planning in Tasmania forever LOL

simply I wish ; to try and find a reasonable source of silver of lesser quality to stack as an alternative to high grade pure silver at a reduced cost; possibly for later resale...

food can spoil becoming dangerous if you have a power outage.

get a plastics tub and fill it with water, after frozen place a coin on top of the ice.

if your freezer ever defrosts when you seek your food look for the coin sunk to the bottom of the water below the refreezed water.

love all the prepping ideas and tips !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you

Oh ,and also the government is repealing income tax is it sort of balances out ...

As a learning aussie prepper, what would be the best thing to collect today for later return on investment versus desirability in a prepper survival situation ?

what has the lowest premiums and likely good ROI ?

thanks

btw ; start your bunker and ark now !!!

the best bang for my buck ?

hi I do 1/4 oz Perth mint 9999 gold, I buy it slabbed as Pf70.

this means the coin is authentic.

i visited a Brisbane coin shop and pursued his coins and he had 3 raw 1/4 oz gold coins.

the shop had to nerve to suggest my slabbed $900 coin could be a fake, I did not reply that his 3 raw coins were far more likely to be fakes.

i tried to find something useful to buy and in the end he even refused to sell me a coin price guide.

i had not griefed him in any way but I do think his business practice to only for buying up deceased estates.

pictures are on the Perth mint website etc but I have mainly Perth mint gold since RAM seems only to one ounce coins.

2013 snake , 2014 horse, 2015 opera house a 1/4 oz platinum pf70 and three ms66 morgan silvers and various 1 oz silvers 999 Australia.

i dislike buying silver since it is a reactive metal ...

but I am going to start buying bullion silver coins as a pure stacker so I do not care if they turn black.

this is because of the import taxes on my slabbed gold coins.

local silver coins have no taxes or fees on them so ill go for pure silver coins.

and it is essentially FREE coins.

as a smoker cigarettes' now cost $1.30 each so fudging my packet over 2 or 3 days gives me the money to buy a 1 oz silver coin

thus it is like free

not sure if you have noticed . . .

there are lots of beautiful coins out there.

so I need a check list to keep me focused in my niche.

i believe my niche helps me to understand the group of coins I collect better.

maybe the coin types help support it other also, by being similar.

1) preferably from my own country (since this is likely where they will be sold) ; by my kids.

2) if I'm going to exchange my labor for coins, it has to be gold; (if gold was good enough for pharaohs and emperors).

3) pure gold without impurities.

4) same size I chose the 7 gram = 1/4 oz,

5) just one of each type , no doubling up...

6) quality must be the same.

7) proof of authenticity.

8) must be from a proven reliable source.

9) should be scarce.

10) and of a desirable topic , ie ; not some weird topic ( better to have a train image on a coin rather than a picture of a sky cloud ) imho ...

when I stick strongly to this checklist I find sometimes I am forced to save a few weeks to stay on target.

now I rarely ever experience collectors regret, even if I find a overpaid a little to much.

this makes me happier with my collection and enhances my pleasure.

i am average dude with nicer coins than many coin shops around me

LoL

I know it would be a far better strategy to consult a psychic rather than an investment advisor.

plus the psychic would have ethics !!!

Hi; I buy collector gold coins as dynastic gold for my kids.

thus I am a hobbyist collector.

now I want to become a long term speculator !!!

so which is better as a likely road to riches over time ?

gold proof coins or silver bullion or whichever ?

Since I am the on doing it ; it must be something I like, something I can enjoy.

Something small , portable and permanent.

Safe and conveniently available.

affordable with interest potential for others.

potential to remain in demand or solid chance to either retain its value or likely increase.

BUT how do you justify the end decision ?

especially with a huge range of things to troll through ?

i collect coins.

i like perfect things so slabs are my goto.

scarce but not rare so proof seventy grade.

if I am going to work and sacrifice myself it has to be pure gold.

so now the range of choices is much more focused and manageable and not all "over the place "; but not a 'niche' either.

niches are great if your so passionate about that one thing you become an expert in it maybe get good returns.

by this solid / rigid set of uncompromising rules it lets me decide that exchanging my labor at work is worth the end result in getting paid in money ; not fiat currency.

LoL ; I like my job and would do it as a part time hobby but I need money :)

my strict collecting focus lets me afford a 1/4 ounce every 3 weeks.

so no hardships, no feeling down that I compromised.

happiness that for an average joe I truly own some of the nicest things in the whole world :)

and that adds to my enjoyment and self esteem . . .

AND

guess what I do next ? ? ?

RINSE AND REPEAT ! ! !

thanks...

So I am in the Land of Oz . . .

We do not pay Taxes on Gold unless we import it from overseas.

From our very famous unnamed mint I can buy a local untaxed 1/4 oz gold proof coin retailing at AU$ 999 untaxed with free delivery.

OR

From the very famous online auctions site I can buy a slabbed 1/4 gold proof imported and taxed, shipping delivered for AU$1,100 !!!

How does this make any sense?

Space in the poll does not allow more reply voting options, but please choose your main are of interest and the closest geographical location.

Like Antarctica would be a part of Oceania I would think more so than South America , imho ....

What Exactly Is An Investment ?

an investment is simply anything you pursue that you wish to see some usually positive gain from.

is running an investment ? obviously . . .

is a hobby an investment ? your personal pleasure is an investment . . .

collect what you like and enjoy !!!

so how to make your hobby an investment ?

collect what others like also, so over time as you appreciate your stuff it will hold its value better.

buying the best coin is wrong in my opinion as an investment !!!

better to buy three common pieces since each of those separate items have a different chance to increase more over time

if you want that special piece then choose a niche piece, something desirable and hard to get like a rare date or mint mark.

these are some ways to turn you hobby into an investment ; imho...

your comments will help me learn, thank you !!!

So Why Does It Matter What You Collect ? Why Its Important 4 U To Focus !

I recall you very older brother , he would call us together and show us endless slide photos of his travels ! ! !

it as fine for him to relive the journey but you can only enjoy so many trees or sagebushes before boredom overwhelms you ! ! !

Is important to have a few laws or rules ; especially hen collecting. Otherwise others are very turned off from your passion.

There are people who collect those old metal ancient tractor seats, a bit of curved metal with holes in . . .

People try and collect every different style lumberjack axe ever made worldwide, but do e think the old time farmers or timber lords are impressed ; I doubt it ! ! !

Your coin collection and banknote currency collection NEEDS to speak to YOU !

But you need some coherent focus so your collections speaks to others as well.

Set yourself timetable and a budget and decide what makes a coherent focus to follow.

I know some people like to grab whatever they like , but if you focus more ; eg. Argentina or Israel people will at least get the idea of hat you were trying to do / collect.

I myself like 1/4 oz gold coins ; my aim is to collect every 1/4 troy ounce gold coin in grade 70; ever made.

I have heard that jeff bozos ex-wife is back on the the dating circuit so maybe I can realise my collecting dreams with her financial backing ! ! !

In addition I am assembling a world type set of graded 67+ banknotes ; one for each country.

I enjoy the hunt and hope someone one day will try and understand the logic to my collecting madness ! ! !

So enjoy your collecting and the way you collect and why but have some policies to keep your collection focused in certain directions and to let others know why / ht you aimed to achieve ; after all you know your collection best ...

regards
