I am at a total loss on this error. I noticed in comparison to other SHAWNEE coins that the lettering is off, but doesn't look doubled, more looks scratched on each character under the magnifier. Then I notices what looks to be a die crack under the S. In addition when the coin is tilted I can see a letter in the heavier than usual inner rim. This coin has the die chip on the eagle and the extra rock on the pile. There are a few other odd things as I magnify. The Obverse of the coin is equally odd. It looks as if George has chicken pox with all the puncture wounds, but around the wounds and in general the coin is brilliant, meaning shinny with nice coat. Can anyone help me decipher what is going on with this coin?
Hi everyone. Yesterday, I found a quarter in my change that looked off. It looks like a silver quarter but doesn't feel like my older silver quarters. Wondering what all of you experts think? The rim definitely does not show two colors.
Coop, The weight is 3.06 I can't tell if it's thinner on the side, doesn't appear to be. Thanks for your response. I have to figure out how to respond to the person that asks the questions vs. whole group.
New to coin collecting, but inherited old coins. Found a 1944 Wheat penny with missing letters LIB in Liberty on front and the Plur on the back as well and the O in ONE. Might this be a die grease error? I've read four starter coin collecting books and this is as close as I can find to the error. In addition to working on my coin skills, I need to sharpen my photo taking skills too.
Greetings, new member here from Massachusetts. Inherited boxes of coins (Pennie's, nickels, dimes, half and silver dollars as well as a few bills). Interested in learning from others after I found a 1944 wheat penny with what looks like a die grease error similar to another coin on your forum. Not sure what to do with it next to validate it's a true error.
