Very interesting! I have never heard of a dryer coin before. Must have drove 'em crazy until they found the coin.

I can clearly see the FG in the first photo of the reverse. I think the lighting/lighting angle in your closeups is such that prevent viewing the initials. Obverse photo has the problem of the shadow below the shoulder of Lincoln, making the VDB not visible.
