I agree the 14-d is cleaned, still a nice example though.
I'm looking to upgrade my 24-d, one of the few G4 coins in my collection.

I think you did very well on all of them except for the 14-D. I only looked at each auction briefly and didn't take the time to authenticate the coins, but assuming they are all real, you paid less than their value on all of them.....except for the 14-d.

I actually think the 09-S was the best buy out of the whole group.

Now the 14-D? First off, Macvanderstein, the seller, is/has been investigated by ebay and problems with him have been reported on CCF before. That 14-D is severely cleaned, and if you look at the surrounding area of the pic, the photo (which looks bad enough) might have been slightly doctored to try and make it look better. That coin would probably need a (times .4) deduction or worse on its grade value. I'm afraid that coin might not even crack $100, if so, barely.

Send them in to ANACS on the October grading special. $10 per coin with a minimum of 10 coins.

I took a closer look and the 14-D looks authentic to me. I think that you may have paid too much for the coin, but it is now your obligation to pay for it, and you should do as such. Macvanderstein is/was under investigation not because of fake coins, but more because so much of what he sells has been cleaned, doctored, altered, etc...usually with no mention of that in his auctions.

For the record, I have personally bought an "original" coin from him once and had no trouble with the transaction.

If you get the coin, you will see it is bright orange and will look out of place in your collection. You can ask to return the coin and get your money back and I am guessing the seller would oblige....maybe a good consideration since you overpaid. If he refused you could report his item as "not as described" for not disclosing the cleaning and you would win and still get your money back.

I feel I must say that although what I just said is true and might be a good option for you, I personally wouldn't return it out of principle. There is some buyer obligation and I feel it was your responsibility (and error) in recognizing the extent of the cleaning from the photo and in paying a correct amount. I would find it morally wrong to return the coin in your situation.....but what I said above would work for you if you decided to go that route.

I bought from MacVanderstein about a month ago. I got a 1913 T1 Buffalo and a 1943 Lincoln. The Buffalo seems fine and would probably grade XF-AU. It is very clean... but I'm not certain it was actually cleaned (I may post a picture in a new thread at some point).

The steel wheat was replated, but no mention of this was made in the auction. When I bought it I was unaware there was such a thing as a replated Lincoln. I found out about replated cents after shortly after I paid. I sent them a message basically saying "if it is replated can you please cancel the sale?". Even though they sent the coin three days later, they didn't answer my message until AFTER they sent it out. Since I only paid 99 cents for it and it was combined shipping with the Buffalo it wasn't worth returning for a refund since return shipping would cost more than the coin did. It is the principle of the thing that bothers me. I might do business with them again, but I will be extremely careful to check out the coin in detail first if I do.

Ceaton you are not negative but realist ! I just cant take the holes anymore .. The place where I live dont give me much options , I know I could get a better 14d and maybe 09s per that cash but ebay sellers are there only for the profit so we only gonna get the coin if we overpay then there is nothing that could be done !

My next stop is gonna be a 31s , my dealer have a beauty pee $140 but it have a damage in the reverse so I ll take my time and try to find a good deal on ebay . What I hate on ebay is if they dont get what they want they dont let the coin go for less . I think the ebay seller manipulate the bidds with 2 different accounts but what I can do ?! I think if I was in the business I would do the same probably ...

I'd take that 24D too as the best one there. That one would fit in my Albums really nicely.


Does this mean you also have the 22 plain? 55, 72, 95 Double Dies? All the 70S's? I guess pending if you put yours in Albums and then too, some have slots for those and some do not.
