Buying from outside the USofA I found the international department at APMEX to be very efficient and helpful. Can't say the same for Provident because I haven't tried it out yet. APMEX tends to be more expensive, but reasonable sales do roll around quite often

Thanks a lot for your military service to our country. It is appreciated and respected more than you know.

I buy silver fairly regularly from APMEX, Provident, and SilverTowne. All have their strengths. I like the selection and volume at APMEX, the prices and shipping at Providence, and the sweet 5-oz. bars at SilverTowne (often with free shipping, albeit at a slightly higher price per bar, and no surcharge for CC use).

If you are into buying US 90% silver coins, APMEX has the variety and volume that should please most any silver coin buyer.

All three of these will have sales from time to time, so it pays to browse their web sites from time to time to see what they are offering.

Looking at SilverTowne it seems there is no price per oz difference between their 1oz, 5oz, and 10oz. I like that!

Yeah, they sell on a per oz. price basis, so ,multiples of the silver price per oz. is what they charge for all sizes of their bars. With some products you can get a volume discount for larger quantities purchased but not usually for PMs unless you get into the 500+ oz. amounts per purchase.

Since APMEX moved to Wall Street and took on extra costs their prices have gone up on all products. I think provident have better prices for the most popular items. Tulving has good prices for large orders Westminster Mint, Gainesville and bullion direct also have good prices.

Personally I prefer provident. Prices usually are better and the shipping cost is lower. APMEX charges 16 dollars to ship even if you just get one thing

In large orders, APMEX is pretty good since the shipping cost is reasonable, but for a small order of say a few hundred bucks, maybe no. But APMEX is also good at pricing if you order 20 or more of an item, and give pretty decent prices. Be sure to also check your local coin shops too.
I checked my local shops before ordering and found them to be slightly cheaper than APMEX.
this being said, I would go with APMEX for a large order, like of at least 1000 dollars, easily. but thats just my opinion :)

I agree that APMEX is a good vendor if you buy in reasonably large amounts, say 100 oz. or more. The shipping cost is reasonable on a per oz. purchased basis.

The thing I like most about APMEX is that they have BU, AU, and XF grade US 90% silver coins for sale and most other vendors do not. All they have are the well circulated coins. I really prefer the XF and higher grade coins. I enjoy looking at nice coins, so that is an aspect of collecting that the circulated coins do not provide. Yes, they cost more but nicer things always do.

A really important point here is to visit these web sites often, as they do have specials from time to time that can be really worthwhile. Sometimes it is a type of coin that is hard to find. At other times it is free shipping. It seems as if they often have something to entice customers. If the deal is not of interest, then move on, and look for a deal elsewhere. Do check back often, though, as we never know when a good deal will surface or how long it will last. The best ones usually sell out quickly or might only be offered for a single day.

I'l never use APMEX again. Since they got into bed with ebay they are basically telling ebay what can and can not be sold in exonumia . They want full control over bullion sales and if it's not bullion it gets removed for policy violations that are not even applicable. Their is nothing wrong with selling tokens, medallions and clad items provided they are not counterfit and are listed for what they are.

I couldn't agree more.

MCM, JMB, and others offer great specials occasionally too. It pays to shop around.

What about the 10 oz. stackers from Scottsdale Silver? Those seem like a decent value @ what amounts to a little over $3 over spot with shipping using your credit card (it's cheaper by wiring the funds directly). Plus the idea of stacking 10 oz. silver bars is pretty cool too!

In my case it depends on what I'm shopping for. APMEX has a huge selection, and Provident less so. For a few ounces of silver Provident is cheaper, and usually has some sort of free shipping available. But for older 90% silver coin rolls APMEX has the advantage hands down. Large selection. Shopping around as mentioned above is key, and free shipping helps.
