Im on team coin. I love the dollar coin, and I wish more businesses would use them more often. After traveling overseas, I can honestly say that there is very little inconvenience associated with their use. I would also like to see a 2 and 5 dollar coin, but thats wishful thinking. Force the change, and people will come around.

What's 4 billion over 30 years when we're still running trillion dollar yearly deficits?

I prefer the bill to the coin, only because I currently find the dollar coin small and ugly. If they were to make the dollar coin larger with a nicer design or multi sided or bi-metal or anything that is attractive then more people would be willing to handle them and use them.
Why don't they take have a nationwide poll of various designs and let the people vote on the design that we prefer (or if the options are bad, then we choose "none"). They expect us to use them, right? The more people that likes the coin. the better chance that it will get used in hopes of eliminating the paper bill.
The government's track record has not been too good lately with dollar coins. We have them and don't use them because they are not something we like looking at.

If they do away with the dollar. I will have to do away with my moneyclip. Kinda hard to have a bunch of $1 coins with that $20 wraped around them....

I'm all for a cashless system, but the problem with that, too much control of what the government can monitor. Hence more reason for them to tax us. But I'd love to see the dollar coin replace the dollar note. If the BEP doesn't want to be bothered with upgrading the plain old ugly design, then they aren't interested in keeping it. And I agree with CajunLady. Make a nice dollar coin and everyone would love to use it. How can you turn down a deal like that?

I'm for the dollar bill. If I pay cash for something I usually receive dollar bills back and it'd be annoying to receive 1 $10 bill and have 3 or 4 dollar coins jingling in my pocket. Then I wouldn't want to continue to carry them so it's not like I'm going to pocket them the next day in case I need a dollar.
Even more. Ladies at "gentlemen's clubs" will need a canister attached to them to collect their tips.
Waiters and Waitresses would be in a similar boat. Could you imagine one carrying home 30 $1 coins from their tips?

You can still wrap that twenty around a stack of twos. Quote: Even more. Ladies at "gentlemen's clubs" will need a canister attached to them to collect their tips. All of the places in my area have been giving out two dollar notes in change for years.

I'll pass right over the fact that jbuck has made a complete, multi-year survey of all such establishments in his area to note that the failure to switch to coins for small denominations has had the effect of gradually making it harder for these young ladies to work their way through college.

Quote: Why don't they take have a nationwide poll of various designs and let the people vote on the design that we prefer They've done that twice. Back in the 1970's the winner by a large margin was a bust of Liberty, we got Susan B Anthony. They did it again in the late 90's and this time the winner was the Statue of Liberty, we got Sacagawea. but they did put the statue on the reverse.

Ain't no Statue of Liberty on the backs of any of my Sacagaweas. Maybe all of mine are mules!

The $1 coin for me.
But no more dead Presidents on them. Use Lady Liberty or Native Americans or wildlife.
