So, I had 15 coins in my plexiglass lock box and I sold all of them at 1.25 each in about a day! I re-filled the box with another 15. Kids seem to love them, and an old man bought 4. One lady was like... "pish.. 1.25 for a dollar... " Then I said they aren't easy to come by and that they are collectible she ended up buying the last 2 that were out at the time. I thought that was a good one. Id say it was a success.. and I still have tomorrow!

If 1.25 was an easy sell, bump em up to 1.50 and let em go for 1.40

I've sprinted across a Target parking lot with a 40-lb bag of dog food thrown over my shoulder and then had to wait for the customers I was carting it out of the store for. I guarantee a bunch of Ikes weigh far less than that bag. All you need is a car nearby and a reasonable amount of upper-body strength to get away with nearly anything.

Well, I think it was a success... I didnt sell any more on sunday so in total I sold 15, and made $3.75. Not a bad investment return id say. It would have been very easy for someone to steal them honestly, but there were things that were worth more that would have been just as easy (or easier) to take because the coins were right on the table in front of me. I only had 15 out at a time. I might try ebay to sell some more.

I wouldn't worry much about thieving while AT the garage sale..... but "AFTER" the sale because they know there may be BETTER more valuable coins inside your house. A possible "coin collection" in there. THIS is what I would worry about. I thought about getting rid of a bunch of badly corroded LWC's at our garage sale one time.....but I just couldn't do it....not even with those ! Thieves get to thinkin'.......if a seed is planted in their brain about a possible boon for themselves by breaking in to see if their "hunch" was right.......nuff said !

Great point! And there are plenty of people out there that think exactly like that.

Quote: here in N.C. a bag of 10 Ike's could go for as much as $100 At a Louisville/Southern Indiana small time auction I saw ten(10) non-silver Ikes get bid up to $13 each: $ 130 The seller told me that he also received almost $ 9 each at the last auction preceding this most recent one. I think this phenomenon has everything to do with the fact that Ikes are typically not available to trade in everyday common cash transactions unlike nickels, dimes, and quarters. The key would be to auction them off in a type of auction not specifically geared toward attracting coin buyers etc. $ 130 for 10 Ikes is nothing more than a display of uneducated emotional buying in the heat of a hotly contested bidding war. mdpmedia

Wow! That is unbelievable to hear that they are selling for that much. A couple of years ago, I turned in 25 to my bank for face value. I still have a few more. Indiana is too far for me to drive. Oh well.

Pending on where you live, there are always those that run the garage/yard/estate sales to see what may be available later. AND with garages, lots of tools laying around is one thing that draws attention.
