It looks like it was left in the sun or baked in the oven?

Looks like someone spit or coughed all over that coin. Unless those spots are on a plastic covering, something spattered that coin. Or a good sneeze and on both sides. Very possibly that is what is causing the discoloring.

My guess is that it was left in a paper envelope and the sulfur from the paper toned it.

Kept inside a leather wallet?
Toning is quite unattractive, 38-40 dollars maybe.

Considering what you do for a living and where you do it, I am beginning to think this is work related.

I have one that is toned almost completely purple but I have no clue how it happened. Be interested to know.

You left it sitting on your desk for show and over time you have it.

It looks very much "natural" to me, but happened under conditions very favorable to natural toning. One very likely scenario is what mcshilling suggested, or similar. It's been exposed to an atmosphere more than normally sulfur-rich, one way or another.

It was in a draw that was lined with tissue paper Must have been there for several years. I found it today while cleaning my office.
