That's what I'm wondering too, is it the light or not. But I see what you're saying, it can be just a basic gold plated penny. I would really need a better picture to tell.

Is that a 1944-S? Maybe it is a rare off-metal gold 1944-S penny. Wait a minute, they didn't make any gold coins in 1944. Scratch that.

That's the real color. No light tricks. I forgot to say that it is a 1977. It's not spray painted. Sorry ill have a better picture when I get back home.

It may have been dipped in gold and sold through a coin club.
It's definitely nothing special though, sorry :(

I've searched everything on the web, and the closest thing in color is gold coins. The chemistry experiments on pennies don't come close to the color and shine of my penny. I guess next is a scale.

My guess is it will weigh very close to 3.1 grams

Take any penny from before 82 and polish with almost any auto polish and it will look like that. At some places where they are demonstrating an auto polish, they use Copper Cents since they are easily made to look like that. And no additional weight from plating.

It has been electroplated with gold post-mint, there were no gold coins struck in the US during the period of 1934-1983.
