ok I'm new so the term PMD is foreign to me lol. Well after looking at this coin for hours and suspecting foul play and other things, there is no way either of which you stated could have happened. Actually it appears (I'm still new to this), In comparing the other details and the way the things appear, it looks as if somehow this and a long flowing haired half nickel somehow are combined(?) don't know how or what happen. These do not incuse, and no damaged to the back in these areas or any other area to suggest vice. The stars are not the only things, just the more interesting and curious. I was told by an "expert" this was the work of a counting wheel. But I am far from an expert and thank you for your post. |

PMD is post mint damage. You will lean the jargon once you have been here long enough. Damage that happened after the mint. I see the stars. What was your idea? What could have happened was someone made a fake die out of the two coins. Like how the 1959 Wheat cent was created. This could not have happened at the mint.

oh ok that makes sense for the PMD. But how would making a fake die explain the spreading of the stars and the misalignment of the words? The E is confusing to all of this, even my idea. But I can see what you are saying as a possibility. I just thought that because the stars are larger they appeared more pressed and spread out more in that area. The other stars are small except the two big ones in the photo. But making a fake die, would that cause the star above the "N" to pop out along with the words? Even with no damage to the back? |

to the left of the eye and the mouth are the bigger ones and the lower right of the "I" is the small one

I would agree that it more than likely isn't another coin imprint but on occasion random objects (I.e paper, metal shards, cloth, etc.) can get stuck and make an imprint on the coin. Most is PMD when it looks like you can duplicate the imprint yourself. If it looks like it actually flows through the coins lettering and/or design then you may have something. I'm not an expert it just has been my understanding |

You mean like the star above the "N"? Or where it comes through the lettering making the lettering deformed? I don't have a way to get a closer look, I'm still trying to figure out what would be a great way to do that, but I thought that was what the star above the "N" was doing. I'm new so that is why I am asking a bunch of questions and I greatly appreciate all the feedback from you guys.

edweather there are two more under that one but they are bigger, almost like they got thinned out or something and then another smaller one connected to the top on the "N" in the "in God we trust" didn't know if you seen those also. :)

I just got one of these back in change yesterday. I'm kind of curios about it. Looks just like the posters pics but the line is more defined.I took my mics and measured and seems pretty close to center.
