The portrait details are typical of a fake. GOOD LUCK!

Looks like plating is coming off the reverse. Fake.

The soft portrait details are indicative of a circulated steel Cent being plated..IMHO

Coin weighs 3.1 grams and is non magnetic

Sounds and looks to me then like a cast copy.

Yikes, I'm afraid that this wheatie is little more than a steel cent with a copper plating that has flaked off. With the non-magnetic thing though, I don't know what to make of that. Seen as how you already submitted it for authentication, I say good luck to you!

You can see the rust showing through on the reverse.

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments - I received confirmation from PCGS that it has been received and is in process. I will let you know once I hear. I'm not holding my breath, but the fact that it is non magnetic..... who knows..... nothing ventured, nothing gained.....

Real or not, I'd love to know where you found it. I've considered buying a fake one just as a conversation piece. I always like to look for the real thing in the lots of wheats I buy.

I agree that it's probably a cast fake. You'll most likely get it back from PCGS in a body bag.

Best of luck to you.
