Thanks! Curious if anyone can comment on this:

AU53 @ $9,400 -- https://coins.ha.com/itm/early-doll.../1251-4526.s
AU50 @ $20,562 -- https://coins.ha.com/itm/early-doll.../1251-5685.s

"Same" coin. Neither CACed. Why the discrepancy? My thoughts so far include ending on different nights (the latter was in a featured auction), eye appeal, old green holder, and just plain luck, but I'm curious for people's opinions.

That's quite an anomaly. I would start a new thread with this question. You will get more responses.

The AU-53 sold for well below AU money. It is a technical 53, but it is too bright, the surfaces have a lot of marks including a deep dig below the ribbon as well as in the right obverse field, there are ugly adjustment marks across the face. It went for a problem free XF-45 price. The real question is what happened with the AU-50.

The AU-50 looks original, has smooth surfaces, and no adjustment marks. It is a solid AU. Still, it was the best example of this coin during FUN, so there must have been competition for it. I had it going for around $12,500. Maybe somebody thought it would 55 today.

Nice pickups Andrew, I was tracking about 40 lots for curiosity purposes but sat out on the bidding. I'm just a newbie, maybe next year.

Thanks. Some advice for success in these things: Plan for a major auction at least a month in advance. Watch everything you like. Order them by lot # as that is the order you will have to face. Decide the most you want to pay with buyer premium and add 10% to it so you won't be sorry if you lose anything. Wait until 1 hour before the auction and send your bids by Live Proxy. Sending live bids well before the auction is just a way of telegraphing to everyone just how high they have to go to beat you. Plan your if-then strategy in advance so that no decisions have to be made while the auction is live.

You don't need to wait another year. The Long Beach auction is partially up already and will be fully up by the end of January.

This was the identical coin that went for $1,265 in March 2012!

This was one heck of a long session, which started at noon and ran until late into the night. The general fatigue as well as it being Session 4 probably contributed to less than enthusiastic bidding. When you can get coins like this for 13.5% back of bid, people are getting tired and running out of money. I know I am.

That is one beautiful Seated dollar. I picked up a couple more for the Indian quarter eagle set. When I'm done, I may have a crack out party and put the whole thing in a Capital Holder

You better have some kind of party! The coins you purchased in this auction take some collectors a lifetime to obtain. I envy your budget.

I got my FUN coins today! They look better in hand than the pictures. The bust dollar has some mint luster, the 1915 quarter eagle has amazing mint luster, and the 1807 half has color that isn't seen from the photos. I'm more happy than usual to get Heritage coins today.

Nice! Your shipping took too long. Are you going to crack them out? I left mine in. I think I'm sending that 1795 dollar back into PCGS through a local dealer.

I am considering cracking out the the Indian quarter eagles, but only once I have all of them, so I can put them in a Capital holder. Everything else I keep in holders.
