While finding a "good one" in change is exhilarating I like the "thrill of the hunt" too. I always check my change. I also like to release what other collectors may consider keepers back into the wild in the hopes that it may stir up some interest in the hobby.
That sounds great.
I always check my change. and my wife's too. She found a 1943p war nickle for me the other day.
When I bought pages for my albums the guy at the store gave me a 2 dollar bill and 2 fifty cent pieces in change. I thought that was cool. And then added them to my collection

Quote:Yes. I examined my teacher's penny jar at the end of last year and found several rare wheaties. I let her take care of the rest. I have a full tube of Lincoln wheaties from combing through car change. Also, a "worthless" "dirty" coin from the bank teller. The Peace dollar was in my new house's attic. Good stuff!

I check every coin that I get in change and also lying around the house or in my wife's car or anywhere. I always ask at the bank for any odd money. Bank tellers are very helpful and will gladly give you the stuff that no one else wants. I just got a 40% silver half dollar today at the bank. I get excited when I find a Wheat penny or a silver dime in change or on the street. I know it's not worth much but it's fun.

Worth the time? No. Then again, I presume a lot of what we do when we're not working is not worth the time. Does that mean you shouldn't do it? If you are not having fun doing it, then no, it does not pay on an hourly basis what you can get doing almost anything else.

Worth can be measured as more than just monetary value.

I do it everyday with my change. I even look through the "take a penny...give a penny" pots at the stores, replacing what I take. I do get stared at?
