I like spending half dollars and golden dollar coins. They last decades longer than the bills do, but they take up a lot of space quickly and most people don't know what to do with them. Two dollar bills are fun to use also, but people always get confused when counting them.

Quote: Like mining an asteroid? Plausible! Even then that would very likely end up in some very expensive rounds/bars which the novelty would likely be a strong seller. By the time we can mine the universe like its just another everyday activity the whole only PMs are money position will be way more fringe than it is today.

Quote: We do not have enough silver in the world to supply what is needed for silver coinage. Actually we might, but it would require a MAJOR revaluation of the currency

Technically speaking the mint has never made a dollar bill.
The mint handles coins not bills.
The bep handles bills.

I like my bills. My wallet is full of ones and fives. I don't like change in my pocket. What if we end up cashless? That's a question for another poll.

Time to start rounding to nearest ten cents on cash transactions. We only need 4 circulating coins.
The dime, a new octagonal and smaller half dollar, the present dollar coin and a new bimetallic 2 dollar coin.
Time to get rid of the cent, nickel and quarter.

Time to get rid of the cent, nickel and quarter. I agree completely, but we need snappy nicknames like the Looney and the Twoney! I was in Sweden last summer and they didn't take ANY cash (paper or coin) at a lot of places. Credit and Debit cards ONLY. I would think that is where we are headed, but we successfully called in sick for "Convert to Metric" day, so who knows!

Man, some of these posts are funny. I agree with a lot of you, but I personally think we should keep the cent. We have such uneven amounts of money to pay now with so many taxes. Maybe we should all start rounding. Anyways, thanks for all the great discussion. Happy hunting to all! -CH27

If we just had the cool bimetal coins like our friends up north, then I would change my tune about using dollar and two dollar coins.
