Here is my thought as a seller; if you do not want offers of "whatever amount" do not ask for offers. If you get lowball offers just tell them,no thanks with a

I don't do it often but when I use Best Offer, I set the auto-reject for the minimum I'll accept.
That way I don't have to deal with nonsense offers.

Of course as the seller I get to decide what "nonsense" is.

Agree with John - don't use BO unless you have a sense of humor.

Zurie you called it, it was that damaged 1809:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1431817053...l_noapp=true

My offer was fair given the market, and I made it since I cannot afford a decent problem free example. In principle I agree it doesn't matter what the seller paid for it. On ebay, though, I use sold listings to get a feel for the market value of coins and make a fair offer. Certainly not worth it to overspend on a coin like this, I just prefer the classic heads without the characteristic porosity and will find a better one eventually. Thanks to all here for sharing your views.

ALL BIDDERS MUST HAVE AT LEAST, "10", POSITIVE FEEDBACK WITH NO NEGATIVES IN THE PAST SIX MONTHS AND HAVE BEEN A ACTIVE MEMBER OF, " ebay", FOR AT LEAST THE LAST SIX MONTHS, ALL OTHER OFFERS WILL BE TURNED DOWN, OR PURCHASES WILL BE CANCELLED
Does ebay allow sellers to do that?

Good seller strategies there, Kanga & John1. Cut to the chase in order to cut off bully buyers at the pass!

Theoretically yes since you can cancel whatever sales you want, you might get in trouble at some point if you cancel to many sales though

Not using BO does not stop you from getting random offers for 30-60% less than the listing. Trust me, I know.

In general I wouldn't use these examples to justify staying away from ebay. You can find some wonderful things on ebay since everyone is different and not everyone is a savvy seller with there own website and reputation. But yeah this guy seems to have a stick up his... (fill in the blank). Just have to read through the descriptions often to pick out people who may be a little better to deal with. Sorry you had that experience. As others say, just move on and don't give it too much thought.

Like basebal21 said, yes (in the end). The seller can cancel any sale, but it may lead to trouble with ebay if it happens too frequently. Technically, the answer is NO. Only buyers with a negative feedback rating can be automatically excluded. Otherwise, one would have to specifically block individual users from buying. It's essentially a scare tactic.

I agree the seller anger is uncalled for. They can just set the listing to reject offers, as was already said. I wish I had seen that one, and we wouldn't be having this conversation. That was a good price, and they were on their toes to pick up that BIN for $75. Temped to make an offer for $70

edweather, I can guarantee if you do that you will blocked from bidding on any of his listings for the rest of time, since that is what happened to me. But it would be very funny for him to get more bids for the true (IMO) value of that coin. His requirement for bidders to have an established feedback seems like a tactic to also prevent blocked people from making new accounts to bid on his listings and leaving true feedback.

But I kept looking and found a better quality 1809 to purchase for more money. So I'm very happy to have just one large cent left (1804) to complete the date set from 1800-1857.

Oh, getting blocked from unreasonable sellers, wouldn't be the first time. No problemo. I got blocked from a seller for a similar reason.....bid around half of the asking price, and got immediately blocked. I thought it was a mistake, so I asked the seller why, and they gave me the same stuff your seller gave you. I went to another account that I had, and offered like $10 dollars more, and they sold it to me. hahaha lol

Yes and no. If the seller does not set any limits on the best offer, they can decide what they darn well please about acceptin an offer or not. But there is also an option to set a threshold, above which the purchase is automatic.

I a guessing in this case, the seller did not do that.

As an aside ... I also recently saw a coin I liked, and noticed it had sold two weeks before (same seller same photo). I sent a message to the seller asking bout this, and was told the buyer in the earlier transaction defaultyed on payment But by the time I received that response, the coins had been sold. Waaahhh!
