Thanks! I just discovered (from @lettow) that the 2 lions are modelled after "Stephen & Stitt" from the HSBC HQ in Shanghai. Apparently the "Stephen" lion is supposed to be the roaring lion while the Stitt lion is supposed to be the more relaxed, quiescent sculpture. It is an interesting read (thanks @lettow for sharing). Here's a 20 Shillings from Kenya (P-17 from 1978) featuring a pride of lions on the reverse. This one does not have "20 Shillings" in English on the front (like the tougher P-13 version) but its still a nice looking note:  Edited by walk2dwater

Even though these don't really look the part, they are described as 'Loewen' (lions) in the catalogues.......  |
