I posted a pretty wide selection of gold world coins on another thread... And the only coin that appeals to me on any rational (irrational?) level is this 1777 2 escudo. The coins are at post 212 or such... http://goccf.com/t/261670 |

Not much risk if you can get it for less than 10% over melt. It'll always be worth at least bullion value at resale.

Let it melt. So much nice looking eighteenth century gold coins to choose from at melt value now. Save a better one.

Forum members are a lot more divided on this coin than I thought.
I am attracted to the date ... 1777 having some significance to me as an American. I know it's not 1776 ... If it were I'd have bought it but I'm on the fence on this one.

Maybe it is just late in the day, but the graffiti is not as annoying and the reverse tone in interesting and somewhat appealing.

Thanks @jbuck. Weighs 6.5 which feels ok given the smoothing of the edge reeding and some wear and diameter is right at 23.

If priced close to melt, the graffiti wouldn't bother me.
