One of my bank branches still had a 'good' supply of cents available last week--no boxes, but a small mountain of rolls. Another branch had signage posted, encouraging customers to bring their cents in.

This past Friday, I went to 2 Wells Fargo banks in my town. First one got my 2 rolls for $1, at 2nd bank I gave them 3 rolls that I had gone through along with a dollar and received 5 rolls. Lo and behold, I was able to get 28 wheat cents and 1 steel cent out of the 5 rolls! A nice haul for my time. Yes, banks only allow you to buy 2 rolls but if you bring in more rolls to exchange, they don't have a problem.

At my coin club meeting on Tuesday, a woman brought in wheat cents that her mom had kept during her time working as a teller in a bank. ( I do believe that she traded cent for cents)! I was able to get 15 rolls of wheats for $1.50 each. Is 3 cents each for wheats a good value for me? Did get some nice looking 1919 D's and some 1923 S 's. Haven't gone through all the rolls yet but it's snowing today in Colorado, so they are beckoning me to check them out!

When I originally posted the offer of two 2025 cent rolls for about $14 (with shipping) earlier in this thread, I was trying to be funny. After the last coin show I attended (two weeks ago,) I have to think, perhaps, it wasn't as funny as I thought. Dealers at that show were asking and getting $7-8 per roll for 2025 Philly cents! The few rolls of 2025D I saw were bringing $10 each (we are in an area that does not usually see Denver mint coins.) At the end of the first day all of the rolls I saw in the morning had sold out.

Quote: Is 3 cents each for wheats a good value for me? I have seen them go for 4 and 5 cents on a regular basis for circulated wheats, so not bad in my opinion. Plus, the teller probably did not check them for varieties and errors.

I went to a moving sale where a local guy was moving to Columbia and getting rid of everything. He told me he had 10 gallons of cents in a couple of 5 gallon buckets that he wanted to get rid of. Went back in a couple of days when he had time to get out everything he wanted to sell. Bought a load of silver from him at a great discount under spot and the 10 gallons of cents turned out to be one 2 gallon bucket. He had taken all the wheat cents but does not search for varieties. Bought the bucked with about $110 in fv for $100 bucks. I think this is a win. Will be good to have for the long winter ahead.

There'll probably be a lot of good stuff waiting to be found.

Needed to send some media mail out this past Tuesday. Paid cash. The USPS employee apologized for shorting me Three Cents in change as they had no pennies and no prospects of getting any. He didn't know when their tills would be set up for rounding up -- or down -- to accomodate cash transactions going forward. So it goes.

Policy should be to round all totals down, which means rounding all change returned up to the next nickel. They will figure it out eventually. Canada did when they killed their cent 13 years ago. But then again, recent history has shown me that most Americans are content to fail where Canadians have succeeded.
