OK, here's the story:
I was in Iran for a year, 1974-75 employed by Bell Helicopter International as an Instructor pilot for the military cadets in Isfahan; don't go putting knots on my head on account of today's conflict with Iran as back then the US & Iran were good ol' buddy-buddies!
One evening I was in the studio of the Armenian artist Yearvand ordering some of his beautiful pen sketches on ancient parchment when....
An elderly gentleman walked in carrying a large canvas bag.
He poured the contents, over a hundred Rupees, onto the counter; with my jaw down around my Adam's Apple, I asked if I could buy one.
Yearvand fingered thru the pile and came up with my avatar! (Of course I didn't know that at that time) and said, this is very rare and you can have it for 90 American.
I paid him the $90 US dollars and have treasured that ornate silver coin ever since, believing I had a treasure.
I've attempted on occasion to ID my treasure to no avail until about 2 months ago when I stumbled upon an online Coin Dealer in Paris.
He immediately ID'ed my Rupee as a Persian Rupee, with the following info:

He said that in today's Market the Rupee is worth about what I paid for it but that in a good Auction it might fetch as much as $125.00......so much for my treasure!
Reckon I'll be changing my avatar pretty soon!
