VF-20. I think the photo lighting makes it look cleaned. The middle photo shows a natural looking coin.

I used the flash in some of the photos trying to get a better shot of any wear or damage for a better guess of grading. It hasn't been cleaned to my knowledge but obviously can't say if hasnt or not prior but it's definitely not shiny like shows in the last few photos. Can I ask what you guys are able to see that tells you if it's been cleaned or not? Just in general not necessarily in this photos. Atleast I'm getting a little better because finally was thinking the same as you guys on it. It's mostly the # portion that I need more practice/knowledge with now

Had to go back and check, but it is the last 2 photos that I used flash on. The 2nd was just normal inside lighting and first photo was outside on a nice sunny day lighting. If that helps at all.

you are asking for a general rule which there is none. there are multiple ways coins are cleaned. some barely noticeable and others blatantly obvious. it can take years of looking a graded coins to understand what occurred.

here are a some vids to help get you started

taking another look at it this using your new photos, I'm pretty certain she was cleaned. you need to remember that the coin is 130yrs old. it could have been cleaned anytime since.

what I'm seeing is a low VF coin that has seen a lot of circulation. there should be more, for lack of a better word, gunk in the recesses of the devices. the darker areas like around the tail and bow areas are washed out as well as the areas around the lettering. this tells me dirt and gung was removed. this does not mean it was cleaned harshly as I'm not seeing any hairlines or anything that would suggest that. the flat looking gunmetal gray color consistent on both sides is another indicator.

if you want to purchase raw coins I strongly suggest going on ebay and search for details or cleaned coins. examine them to see why they were noted with that designation. looking at cleaned coins is the only way to understand what to look for.

I'm mostly curious with all sorts of questions because I'm about to unload all my Morgan's to sell online. Which is already a tough thing for me but my anxiety goes nuts when I try. Last thing I want to do is sell someone something and not knowing or to be selling any for way less then worth. Thought I had time to learn more but needing an important surgery ASAP so just have to do it.

its sounds like you are under the gun to sell. I would say, if you can hold off I would and take the time to learn a little more about each of your coins. inventory them and take some time to post them here and get an assessment on them. use ebay sales and numismedia to look up pricing once you have a good idea of their grade.

Hello from a fellow Oregonian ! If you're selling on ebay, start your bid at what you're comfortable letting it go for. Don't forget a good bit for shipping. I just printed a label going to Virginia. One ounce package and the shipping label cost me 8.95. Things are out of control now. I wish you luck in raising funds.
