2026-P Dime - Channel Below The Neck

Thanks for the write-up, I was wondering what I was seeing.

I found three affected in a Denver roll of 50 (so far) but I only looked for the "bump" below the neck. That's 6%. It will be interesting to see if others are seeing a similar %.

I'm also seeing a lot that are slightly off-center but I consider that normal.

Here's some pics of what I found, taken within a few minutes of each other with same lighting and positioning...





...and a couple of shots at arm's length to show that you can see the effect without a magnifier just by tilting the coin in your hand (at least on uncirculated ones. It blinks at you as you tilt the coin.

It appears sloped from the field to the neck, so the appearance is that it is bulged, but that may be a trick on my eyes.

I have some more photos with varying lighting and angles.

Here are a pair with coin turned about 90 degrees in the second one.





The next two are edge shots with one showing a dark area on the edge of the neckline that might coincide with the affected area, and then one with less tilt showing the facet growing as the tilt changes.






An edge shot showing neckline. I thought I saw areas of roughness just beyond the edge shadow on the neckline and smoothness along the area where the facet is located. Then again, it might just be my eyes.





These last two are just varying angles and lighting. It is difficult to capture in still photographs with the equipment I have. When you hold it in your hand and tilt it, it looks like a little bulge against the neckline extending toward the second "2" in the 2026 part of the date. If you tilt it toward the top of Liberty's head, the light blends it right in, so it seems to disappear.

Maybe Ms. Liberty developed a thyroid condition (goiter)...

I took another look at my Denver roll and found 11 more for a total of 14 out of 50. (That's 28% on this small quantity). Seems like the challenge may be to find ones that don't have the various chips and other problems we are seeing.

I did not notice any, but my eyes are getting blurry so I have to stop for a while. I did a quick run through my Philadelphia roll and found 13 in that roll that need a closer look once I get the chance.
