Now that the price has dropped I'm thinking I need to get a second set do some cost averaging.

The good news is that the set just arrived. The bad news is that the silver medal appears to have a slight "beauty mark" (a.k.a. ding) on the face of Lady Liberty on the obverse. It's not all that visible in hand, but clearly visible when magnified.
I'd personally get an exchange. Personally if I were paying $5k for that set it better be flawless. |

I received my set this morning, everything looks fine except what I see is 3 tiny scratch marks on the eagle, I didn't open the plastic cover to check, but I think is on the medal itself, can't really see it without magnification, so I enhance the image of the reverse side to spot where it is on the eagle body, there were some fine lint present on the sun, not sure if is in the capsule, was in a hurry to leave work, so I will check again tonight.   |

I'm disappointed how the medal looked with the BOM 1907 Saint Gaudens set, so this probably will be it for me with this series and save some money.

One thing I don't like about the silver medal is the reverse earth. It shows most of USA, maybe part of Oregon, Washington but no Alaska ot Hawaii. Washington, Oregon California areas did not become US territory untill around 1846 so it can't be argued the artist only wanted to show the USA as it was in 1804. The artist could have turned the earth and have fewer clouds to show all 50 states. The artist may have needed to move Hawaii closer or Alaska down some to fit them in but it didn't need correct proportions and distances. Above it says United States of America. Oops sorry Alaska and Hawaii.
I really like the medal's obverse.

Or perhaps just reflecting the fact that the mint price has always been based on the current price of gold and gold has dropped in recent weeks.
