I think it looks like the wide O type, I find it easier to look at the bottom curl of the 9 it has more curl than the narrow curl?

yes, it is a wide 0, based on the tail of the '9'. I still haven't been able to find a narrow 0

i think its a narrow 0 based on the denticles in the picture shown from malibu. and the placement of the date to the denticles matches that of the narrow. I see what the other guys are saying about the curve of the 9

Ok...so it looks like we have it narrowed down to either the narrow or the wide 0 variety. Thats a start. I will see if I can get a better pic soon. From the literature I have read and with the pictures included in the literature...I have to go with the wide 0 variety. I say this based more or less on the design of the 9. The pictures show with the narrow variety that the 9 has a very slight curve to the 9 while the wide variety has a distinct upward curve to the 9. Also...for the narrow variety the leg of the 9 is more pointed as to the 9 in the wide variety which is noticeably blunt. Just my 2 cents on this 10 cent coin. cladhunter13

Its a wide '0'. Odd thing is, the easiest way to tell is to look at the 8. The bottom circle of the 8 is twice as large in the Narrow date than it is in the wide.

I hate to bring this topic up again but I just found 2 examples today whilst roll searching. Does anyone have anything else in the way of updates that we can add to this subject..

I've just gone through my 84 examples of 1980 dimes that I had stockpiled, and they're all Wide 0. I suspect the higher price for mint state Wide 0 examples, as given by Charlton, is because they are harder to find at that condition than the Narrow 0 dimes. Charlton also suggests there should be Narrow 0 examples that circulated... I agree with laconic's post about the shape of the 8 being the most obvious distinguishing feature, followed next by the "curl" of the 9. Below is a shot of the Narrow 0 example found in my prestige specimen set, and a Wide 0 from circulation: I'll still keep my eyes peeled for 1980 Narrow 0 coins in circulation

I too am 0-for-many with the narrow "0" in looking through circulation rolls.
So I recently gave up and bought a narrow variety from a PL set. It cost under $2... sometimes I wonder why I bother roll searching for stuff like this!
