Save up $50 and buy a nice MS example. That way you have one and you'll never need to ask again. Plus, these hold their value, if you ever get in a pinch for money, you can sell it.

The inner tail of the 9 looks SD, but the 7 and 0 look LD I guess I agree with LD

LIBERTY can be mushy on any coin, it is just one pup on a 70-S sd. But honestly, there is no doubt this is a large date.

I have a similar one, the 9 Looks different than the other 70s' I have pulled... Not trying to Hijack the thread, but didnt think it was worth creating another thread about the exact same thing

I hear ya Maineman, I just figured if the liberty was crisp all doubt would be gone from my troubled mind. 70-s SD/LD give me a headache. And I agree with ya totally.

I'm going to go with the experience of you all and assume it's not a small. But I assure you I'll be keeping it for comparison down the road!

schlthjdls...that is a large date too, the corrosion is making it look different.
michaeln1306,good idea....as I tell everybody, it really costs nothing to save it because you can always spend it whenever you become more confident in identifying varieties.

OK, here is what I found in ebay: Small Date Variety: The Small Date variety is also known as the "High 7" variety. Even though "Small Date" is the more generally accepted term, it is easier to distinguish the two varieties by focusing on the location of the 7 than the size of the date itself. On the Small Date variety, the top of the 7 is even with the top of the 9 and 0 adjacent to it in the date. A second diagnostic for the Small Date variety is a weak LIBERTY which actually appears "mushy". and the link to comparison photo: http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/...tCompare.htmBase on the photo, the 7 and 9 are even. I will said it is a Small Data for me.......
