CAC Announces A Surprise July 4th Privy Mark Dollar Has Been Found.

I got emails from Pinehurst Coins and Modern Coin Mart today with presales showing the July 4th Privy.

For the heck of it: Did an ATS look-up on the DJT rolls and bags in the last ten minutes:

26SQRP ( 25 coin rolls ) - ATS = 18,577 ; Prod. Limit was 150,000. Reported ATS at start of sale: 128,665.
26SQBP (100 coin bags ) - ATS = 0 ; Prod. Limit was 50,000. Reported ATS at start of sale: 36,765.

An individual who purchased a bag at the mint reported finding 6 of the July 4th PM versions.

Just checked 8pm PST 9/2/26 both ATS#s are at zero.

Okay, the non-privy dollars are definitely going to be placed into circulation, evidenced by the mint's updated production figures, which indicate a total of 16.4 million DJT dollars produced. Recall that only 8.75 million are accounted for by the mint's rolls and bags, leaving about 7.65 million unaccounted for. Subtract 100,000 to 150,000 for release at special events like the ANA convention, and you're left with just over 7.5 million for circulation. That would make this release the first circulating dollar coin since 2011, when the minting of Presidential and Native American dollars for circulation was abandoned due to low demand.

A friendly reminder that modifying/disfiguring coinage or paper money is legal, so long as that's not done in an effort to defraud. My Sharpie Pen is standing by to redact the scribble signature of any paper money that crosses my path.

1910s_1C, I agree that the thread should not be locked. The problem is that the appropriateness of using this particular individual on the coin, or any living person for that matter, should be open to discussion given our history of American coinage (Yes I am aware of the Commemorative coin minted in 1926 with Washington and Coolidge with Washington in the foreground and Coolidge in the background, a controversial coin at the time by the way).

It really isn't political if the discussion centers on that question.

Is it a circulating coin? We don't know. There has been no transparency about this by the Mint. No public statement announcing the return of circulating dollar coins this year or in the future. Will there be a circulating dollar coins in 2027 and beyond? If so, will it be a Native American coin or a new design?

Sorry BadThad, it is not "unAmerican" to express an opinion. In. Fact, what could be more in keeping with American values than speaking one's opinion. Liberty is after all another word for freedom.

I for one, think the issues and insuring "controversy" surrounding this coin is a healthy discussion for coin collectors, numismatists and the general public.
