When I bought this small coin I thought I would be able to id it relatively easily, but so far I have had no success.

Anybody got any ideas to what it is. I thought it looked Greek, as did the dealer, but I'm not so sure now.

I like the way it looks and would hate to add it to my growing stash of unidentifiable ancients.

As always comments appreciated.

Neat coin. I think it might be Celtic.

@ echizento...Thanks, yes the face especially looks Celtic, but the overall style seems to be something else.

@ Anoob...Interesting about a scarab. I thought it might be some sort of bug also.

I've tried many combinations of letters p d t y a l on wildwinds. There might be some symbols above the main object on the reverse as well.

Update:

When I reversed the rev. image, this coin revealed a likeness to these Caria, Myndos types, especially the two cruder examples below.

Laureate head of Zeus r.; Headdress of Isis

Two problems I now see... I haven't been able to find any bronze examples.... and, I have trouble reading the legend as MYNDIWN or MYNDAIWN. Although my legend seems to run off the flan and is not all there.

Do you think it could possibly be a bronze issue from Myndos?

Good job Doucet

I was way off, I've been looking at lightning bolts and fertility goddesses (maybe I have a dirty mind but I was obviously seeing something nobody else did).

Your certainly very close.

What about these bronzes from Antiochos VII:

Correct metal but maybe not as good a fit style wise or for the obverse

Yes, I saw those two. That's when I started looking for the Isis headdress coins.

Thanks
