EddieDiz Pillar of the Community United States 1186 Posts	Posted 03/16/2013 4:24 pm I purchased a Hungary silver denar that is still in transit. The date was advertised as 1512,but the last digit looks like the Greek letter "omega". From the research I have done,this symbol was used as a "4" which would make the date 1514. And the earliest coin to bear an AD date and "Western" numerals, the plappart of St Gall dated 1424, also bears the numeral "4" in this same form; see the example near the bottom of this page.
