I'm new here and hope someone can tell me how valuable this gold coin is, thanks. it has passed down for 3 generation so far. year show 1839 tho.

These are not always made of gold, sometimes they are up to 22kt gold and sometimes they are just gold gilded. The solid ones usually have a stamp indicating the gold fineness. Take it to a jeweler, if solid gold it will be worth melt value. If gilded then worth just a few dollars.
