Paul Bulgerin Pillar of the Community United States 3098 Posts	Posted 02/23/2015 11:53 pm Earlier today I put up a post about some 1970-S Small Date Lincoln Cents I found in three rolls of 1970-S cents a friend asked me to look through for him. I was going through the ebay listings for 1970-S Small Date cents tonight checking out examples and prices when I came across this one. It's a 1970-S Small Date with No S! That or it's a regular 1970 and the seller goofed. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-S-Choi...em2c9758c4fd The listing's title is for a 1970-S Small Date, but the listing itself just says "1970 One Cent". Since all the dies were made at the Philadelphia mint wy did oly San Francisco get the small date dies? Since Philadelphia and Denver made so many more cents your would think that the first dies would gone to them. Report this Post to the Staff

Many experts can easily describe the difference between the 2 varieties, but none of them can explain why there are two different hubs. Perhaps the answer is related to existence of small date proofs. A proof hub could have been used to create a business strike working die. I don't really know. Maybe it's aliens.
