Picked this up 2 weeks ago from my LCS. Grades, please? I'm thinking XF Details, but I'm new to trying to grade these $1 goldies. Thanks for the help!

what makes you say XF or details?! unless I am missing something(whizzed?) it looks like a well struck piece of good frosty old American gold.

I'm with dollarman on this. Looks AU+ or maybe even MS. Looks problem-free as well.

AU-58 minimum, and probably MS-63. If you paid an XF price, you did very well!

Thank you for the replies. I paid spot for this coin ($57 on 5/2/15). I bought 5 gold $1 coins in all that day, all at spot (this one, a holed 1851, an abused 1856, a nice 1868, and a decent 1887). It was a good day. After reading everyone's valuable feedback, I will submit this one for grading. Thanks again.

Sounds like an amazing day to me. Even a damaged common date gold dollar at spot is a good pickup, but decent quality gold dollars, some of then MS and even better dates sounds like you did very well for yourself
