LegendInTheMakin New Member United States 15 Posts	Posted 11/16/2015 8:37 pm Hey Everyone, When I first saw this gray colored cent, I thought it was a chemistry project. However, last night I happened across an old article from Coin World talking about Unplated Planchets and I thought it might be one of them. There does appear to be some light brown coloring around the reverse rim but some of the slabbed coins I saw on ebay show some brown on the the surface of the coin so I don't know if that is an indicator. I did weigh it, but my scale didn't go to the tenth of a gram so it only said 2 grams. Report this Post to the Staff

LegendInTheMakin New Member United States 15 Posts	Posted 11/22/2015 1:04 pm On a coin like this, if it's hard to tell whether it's plated or not, would it be advisable to send in to a TPG? Right now this coin is hardly worth one cent. If I send it in to get graded with some other coins it could be worth anywhere from $50 or -$10. Do you think that would be a good gamble? coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 11/22/2015 1:22 pm You can see the scratches on the coin that shows the coin was worked over. A coin missing the plating should be smooth and some cartwheels should show in light. You coin is not an non-plated example. Even if it was, I would not have it graded as the fees may cost more than the coin was worth. (when I buy a coin, I add nothing on for a coin that is graded.
