1953 People's Republic Of China 2 Fen Notes

Assuming my identification is correct, I'd suppose their use predates that of the People's Republic of China 2 fen coins, which as I understand it, were first struck in 1956. The "serial" numbering (actually more likely a series number) is quite odd, conisting of Roman numerals utilized in an unconvertional manner. I'd have to think the quantities printed for such a small denomination were just enormous, but it's still cool to find them is such nice condition. They're small, just 95 x 45mm. Another curious aspect is the aircraft depicted, which looks very much like a Douglas DC-3 or C-47. Colligo ergo sum Report this Post to the Staff

aiglet7 Pillar of the Community Canada 695 Posts	Posted 12/10/2015 01:07 am These 'Reform Period' 1953 notes are quite common and were issued in denominations of 1,2 & 5 Fen; 1,2 & 5 Jiao; 1,2,3 & 5 Yuan. The 1,2 & 5 Fen have combinations of Roman numerals followed by a serial number or simply Roman numerals. The aircraft depicted on the 2 Fen note is a Russian Lisunov Li-2 and was a license-built version of the Douglas DC-3. Report this Post to the Staff
