aneta Valued Member United States 75 Posts	Posted 01/12/2016 12:43 pm Here is another interesting 1984 coin, it has doubling on the ear. The hairline, and the TY in Liberty. Can you tell me about it? I know it doesn't look like the famous "1984 double ear" but there is defiantly something going on. Report this Post to the Staff

Owassokie Pillar of the Community United States 622 Posts	Posted 01/12/2016 1:06 pm I'm not an expert but this looks like classic Machine Doubling, which generally doesn't add value to a coin. If you're not familiar, do to a search on " Machine Doubling vs double die". OO Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/12/2016 9:03 pm On the doubled ears, the area should be raised and not flat shelf like looking. I agree this is MD. Here are few images of the known doubled ears: Note how the affected areas are raised not reduced, flat looking shelf like look of machine damage during the strike or after the strike by other coins contact to a coin. (if it follows the shape of the die, then it is machine damage to the coin during the strike. If it does not follow the shape of the die, then it is likely coin contact damaging the coin post strike) Report this Post to the Staff
