1907 Cent Error Dilema - Coin Community Forum

I think if it's been hammered post-mint, there should be a bulge and the edge of the coin would be thinner too. Of course, that it affects both sides suggests it's post mint vs. both dies being affected (imo). Report this Post to the Staff
harveypb Valued Member United States 341 Posts	Posted 02/20/2008 1:01 pm I received a reply from RCC NG that makes sense. The coin was struck through some type of debris. Doesn't look like any type of post-mint damage when looking at the coin in person. Coin is not out of round and edge is not thinner. Some debris on the rev. die prevented the wreath on the rev. from being struck up and also the letters on the corresponding obv. area from being fully struck. Report this Post to the Staff

Another possibility to consider would be that the coin was struck on a damaged planchet. As such, the area would not have struck up correctly.
