I know that there wasn't a proof coin made for this year... but no matter how much I look at this coin, it looks to me like it's a proof. Could this be a 1944 proof Wheat penny? Any thoughts, and could it be worth more than just face value?

Uh well, someone with more expertise can chime in and tell you exactly what happened to this coin but I can say it's definitely not a proof. Someone did unspeakable things

To the CCF

Just a poor attempt at plating.
Any value it had has been lost.

Shiney... does not make a coin proof.

This is just a polished coin.

Would have been a more attractive coin if it wasn't polished.
