1899 Penny - Any Info Please

Hi all,
I have this 1899 penny that was in an old collection I got from a great uncle. I have two questions -
It obviously has the 'green death' and I was wondering if there was any way to treat the decaying process.
Secondly, the date 1899 seems to be different to other samples I have looked up. The 1899 seems to have the '1' and the last '9' squished to fit the curve of the coin. Was this coin from a particular mint ?
Any information would be much appreciated.

Yep. The London one. Tower Hill - The Royal Mint at the time. It's now located at Llantrisant in Wales.

I don't get what you're saying - I think that's just an effect of the decay of it? It looks like any other to me, though I'm far from expert. I'm also not aware of any varieties for this coin.
