Have you ever busted out a slabbed coin to fill a 7070 type set or regular album page.At least you know it's not faked or cleaned.Maybe you don't ever plan on selling them so you don't care. And you do own the coin and you can do what you want with it I guess.I have busted out dozens of Morgan's to fill my album but I haven't done so with 4 expensive Carson City's only. For some reason I just can't do that with those ones. They are remaining out of my book.
Has anyone else done this?Your thoughts.

When I do this, I keep the TPG insert and tape it on the album. When putting together my 7070 I cracked out various slabs with good eye appeal but "cleaned", particularly coins prone to counterfeiting such as Trade dollars.

Not yet, but it is going to happen unless I find a raw Seated dollar with motto that I trust. It is the last hole in my 7070. All the others were filled with raw coins.

I will say that filling the other Dansco album key date holes will likely require a slab-cracking. Time will tell.

I would say it's fairly common for CCF members to crack out coins to put in albums as long as you also tape the insert to the album .

I believe a lot of CCF member crack out coins. You have to take into consideration that when selling that particular coin, you might not make your money back especially if selling on eBay. But its part of the hobby. I cracked out 2 Peace dollars to complete my set. I cracked out a few modern coins to complete the 20th century type set.

Quite a few of the coins I am putting into my 1900's type set album are crack outs. I always tape the label at the back, as others have said.

For the modern part (post-1945) of a 7070 set, it often makes sense to buy a slabbed coin as the price difference between that and a raw coin is minimal.
For pre-1900 coins I would definitely not crack out coins, unless the value of Mint State samples are less than $100.
Actually, this is one reason why I feel that Dansco should have split the 7070 set into two sub volumes: Classic and Modern.

I filled a Franklin album by cracking out alot of high grade MS. I keep the labels in a zip-lock taped to the back page. I've also cracked out alot of Morgans but I keep the individual value on each to under $500. The rest, I keep in a box of either NCG or PCGS. I have picked up a lot of non-slabbed morgans of lower value for the album and keep the spendy ones slabbed. I will likely never sell my coins but occasionally up-grade and sell the lesser, sometimes. Anytime I receive a slabbed morgan that has tone.... it immediately comes out and gets dipped. Toning, just say no!

You remove toned Morgans from slabs and dip them? Really? How offensive, at least to me.

Yep.. I bust'em out and fill the holes.

Absolutely a quick dip to remove unsightly toning..

I use an Elmers glue stick to put grade labels on the back page.

I won't use Scotch tape as it will damage pretty much anything over time.

easy if the labels are from PCGS or NGC, but the ANACS labels are huge and glued into the holders...
