Hello, This is the only type of this coin I've handled. I do not see many of these in Rome. Any thoughts on grade and authenticity to help me get an idea would be appreciated...

I'm not sure about this one because of multiple variations and it's out of my league. This is clearly a small date variation and the letters and stars should be small too. If you weigh it, it should be close to 13.48 grams considering the wear. Someone should have a better answer. If it's real, it's a very nice find!

I'm at G-6, and I don't see any major red flags concerning the authenticity of the coin.

A nice small date, small letters variety... Indeed, G-6 is where I also land.

Thanks everyone... I am thankful for the confirmation. I haven't seen another authentic liberty bust half in Italy ... Fakes... Lots! But, obvious fakes...

G-06 maybe, but VG? The obverse rim is missing from K5 to K10.

In my mind, with very limited experience, I was thinking something 'G' ...

as for authenticity my thought on it is why go through all the work required to make this coin look like its been circulated for 100 years and is it even possible to make it look like this. I mean its a common half and maybe worth $65-70. doesn't make sense

Quote: I haven't seen another authentic liberty bust half in Italy ... Fakes... Lots! But, obvious fakes... That is the nice thing about bust halves, decent fakes are hardly seen. I personally haven't run into any impressive fakes yet. If you study and recognize basic date positions then the counterfeits are very easy to spot.

@jac, I bought this half when I was very new to collecting. I had however seen a number of fakes in Rome. Even to my completely novice eye, the fakes were terrible. You are right. It is reassuring!
