Hi everyone, Happy Friday!
I recently bought my first
Trade dollar, an 1876-S
DDO Type 2//2 graded AU53 by NGC.
It's a beautiful coin with even, natural looking wear and toning with a slight circulation cameo. I love it! It's exactly what I was looking for for my first
Trade dollar. I love that it is minted 100 years after the signing of the declaration of independence, and that the mint is San Fransisco, where many
Trade dollars were shipped to China from.
My coin comes labeled as the
DDO VP-002 variety, and I'm having trouble finding much information about it.
I see a lot sources talk about the rarity of the 76-S
DDO, however I feel like they are referring to the FS-001
DDO, which seems to have more prevalent doubling and is listed as VP-001 by NGC here:
https://www.ngccoin.uk/variety-plus...1885/?page=1 1. Can anybody tell me about the rarity of the VP-002 I have? I see that in general type 2//2 is a bit scarcer, but I can't find much information about the VP-002 specifically.
2. Would PCGS recognize this as
DDO (PCGS# 97043) if I was to try and do a crossover? Or would they just list it as a type 2//2 (PCGS# 40116)?
Any information or points in the right direction would be great! Thanks in advance all :)
Alex
