Not a penny person but this looks like die double and and an odd tail on the 9
Any help to identify would be much help thank you

Hard to see detail on dark photos but I would say it is just circulation wear along with a die chip at the 9.

Agree--a bit too worn (circulation flattening, etc.) to deduce any DD features. Gotta ask, what does the reverse look like?

Thank you for all the responses. Die chip was what I was thinking but when scanned the "1" just looked so much like doubling. Even though there isn't any documented 1916 double die

Ah that first number 1 has taken a hit which kinda makes it look doubled. Maybe that is what you are seeing with the coin in hand.
