Prior to World War II (beginning in 1933) the Japanese invaded and occupied large parts of China. They set up four puppet states for civilian control of the territories they occupied, all of which issued their own separate coinages: Manchukuo (Manchuria), Meng Chiang (Inner Mongolia), the Provisional Government of China (Beijing) and the Reformed Government of China (Nanjing). This coin is from the last of those four states.
