Not really a 'great' pickup
More at an unexpected find
My first inclination (as mentioned) was to simply discard it by gifting to someone easily impressed by antiquity
(regardless of import !)
The bust profile is quite recognizable even without the legend as a relatively mature Hadrian
Twenty years of fine dining will do that !
The real mystery is the reverse
The image of a horseman is clear enough on left side
So 'he' must be approaching something ?
My first thought was ADVENTVS
But I can also make out a leg and what looks like a scepter or long spear on the right
Below seems to be an X in exergue
Could be Hadrian horseback EX PED in ex ?
But the horseman is not centered and faces wrong direction
No he is approaching something or someone
Hmmmm .
There is only one Hadrian reverse 'type' to match these three different details
DACICVS
SYRIACVS
BRITANNICVS
One dare not hope for BRITANNICVS
