Looks like it got hit with some kind of flying metal projectile from some sort of violent slingshot (not gonna say what it really got hit by, a rather too sensitive subject for some...)
So yes, a severe case of PMD whichever way it happened

Unless you were there at the time, you might never know exactly what happened,
the only thing we know for sure is that it is PMD.
