Anyway, you let one unidentified 82 penny rest on the tip of your finger. Lightly tap the edge of it with a zinc penny. You should hear a ring for a second or two. If its just a thud, the 82 is zinc. I guess I don't have the ear for it because it did not work for me, no matter how many I tried. But after some practice I found that holding 1 in each hand and comparing the weights works pretty well for me. Of course I have a scale to weigh them to verify my assumption.
