CONSTANTINOPOLIS, crested, laureate helmeted bust of Constantinopolis left in imperial mantle & holding sceptre / Victory with open wings standing left, right foot on a vessel's prow holding sceptre & leaning on shield, SMTS Delta in ex. Obv. reads CONSTAN-TINOPOLIS Your coin was made in Thessalonica, probability in the 4th (delta) officina. SMTS = Thessalonica The delta sign is a small triangle that can look a lot like and A ( A would be the 1st officina) There were five officinae operating at Thessalonica at the time when these coins were made but it seems that only the 4th (delta ) and fifth (epsilon) were minting these Constantinopolis types. Maybe others will eventually show up. It's difficult to tell the difference between an A and the delta mark, they look very similar. There were 13 cities minting these Victory on Prow types, some used both the A and the delta mark....! Look up helvetica's Victory on Prow site and excel sheet for a great deal of information. Also the LRBC book. Not many collectors are interested in them. I've nearly got one from each officina now. Nice example. Report this Post to the Staff
