TPG's Recognize PL & DMPL On Anything Besides Morgans?

oih82w8 Pillar of the Community United States 7840 Posts	Posted 10/01/2011 2:08 pm I have seen Proof Like (PL) and Deep Mirror Proof Like (DMPL) Morgans, but does the Big III TPG recognize any other coin besides Morgans as PL & DMPL? D0ubl3Eagle Pillar of the Community United States 5854 Posts	Posted 10/01/2011 3:19 pm I have seen Seated coins and some gold coins usually Liberty double eagles with the PL designation. I wonder if any other coins other than Morgans that have gotten the DMPL designation. I can't recall ever seeing one. Report this Post to the Staff
SsuperDdave Moderator United States 23522 Posts	Posted 10/01/2011 4:13 pm Classic coinage isn't unheard-of in PL, and DMPL examples are known. Here's an object of lust for you: http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...25&lotNo=785 The relative commonality of PL/DMPL Morgans is due to their huge mintages and lack of thorough circulation. Lots of dies were used, and most were repolished during their lifetimes, multiplying the chances for PL/DMPL examples from fresh-surfaced dies. Other Classic coinage had much lower mintages - fewer dies - and circulated heavily. But they're there, and when you see one, it stops you in your tracks. Report this Post to the Staff

I have an NGC MS66FB* 1944-D with a super-hammered strike from a polished die that I would describe as proof-like. It's defied my efforts so far to get a good picture.
