Die Clashes And Then What Are These

pennybright Valued Member United States 117 Posts	Posted 03/02/2007 06:26 am I think I understand correctly, that a die clash is when the 2 parts that stamp the coin strike without a blank planchett in between them - thus creating an imprint on the actual die. In looking at some of the pictures of a TY1 (pictures in this book are courtesy of Mike Diamond) there are die clashes that do not appear to be a part of anything, (numbers, lettering, other than a raised area between the A & M and seems to be some above the E.P.U. and that area). What identification number would one use to catalog this? I know the scan isn't that great with low resolution... Report this Post to the Staff

coppercoins Pillar of the Community United States 7629 Posts	Posted 03/02/2007 11:35 am There aren't catalog numbers for recent die clashes - usually die clashes by catalog reference are only used to identify a die in early coins for those who like to collect them by specific die - most common in bust half dollars and large cents. Your coin has a die gouge caused by a tool of some sort. It's not a clash. Report this Post to the Staff
